Additionally, a number of notable guest stars are featured including David Zayas, Mark Pellegrino, Ray Wise, Lucy Lawless, and Trica Helfer. The show also does an impressive job at building an over-arching story for the season while keeping each episode a case-of-the-week, and the actions scenes are incredibly exciting and fun. And the writing does an excellent job at using voice over narration with Michael giving spy tips and explaining the spy trade throughout the episodes. Starring Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, and Bruce Campbell, the cast is really good and balances the action and comedy especially well. But in the meantime, he takes odd jobs helping people with his ex-girlfriend Fiona and retired Navy friend Sam Axe. In Season 1 CIA spy Michael Westen is burned (cut off and disavowed) and is forced to return home to Miami, where he precedes to try to uncover who burned him and get his job back. But I would hope, given its 7 season run, that it moves away from the safe curve come season 2, and shakes things up a little.įrom USA comes the thrilling spy series Burn Notice. Of course first seasons are always awkward because no one knows how to take it, especially studio bosses, producers, directors, writers and cast. The only problem is that nothing much out of the ordinary happens here: its basically painting-by-numbers for 40 odd minutes. This is a combo between the best bits of CSI:Miami and Miami Vice, and if you've seen either you'll be on familiar ground here. However, each successive episode follows the same formula, and you just know that despite all the drama and death threats, our intrepid trio will always win out in the end, finishing off with some lame joke coupled with an air of satisfied smugness. The reviews seemed quite positive, and the pilot episode wasn't too bad, especially to see a spy getting fired for no apparent reason, and having to live on his wits/friends/associates as a PI. If I'm being honest I only found this show through IMDb for Bruce Campbell (am a big Evil Dead fan!).
